World Championship Rally in Porto Downtown
Porto street-stage Porto is the big news of the Rally of Portugal this year, promising to be one of the major attractions of the Rally World Championship. The event, which this year will occur from 19 to 22 May, will be for the first time in the city through two tests classifications that will compete in downtown Porto.
The track will be created in Avenida dos Aliados but also in some surrounding streets, will have the length of 1,850 meters and is covered twice by competitors, constituting a "special" test 8 and 9, closing the friday stage, May 20.
Fully played in North for the second consecutive year, the rally was presented by Automóvel Clube of Portugal (ACP) at Exponor, which will again be the base center of the race. Carlos Barbosa, president of ACP, said during the presentation that "the Tourism of Portugal withdrew support to the rally precisely in the year that came to the North", adding that the competition, considered one of the media of the world, was just possible because the municipalities and North bodies have accepted the challenge to realize it.
The Town Hall, which this year takes first responsibility of coorganizar one street-stage, is waiting welcome in downtown Porto tens of thousands of spectators, is already guaranteed direct transmission through RTP and 160 television stations from other many countries.
Rui Moreira, the town hall mayor highlighted at the presentation the importance of the competition for the promotion of the tourism and Porto brand and announced that despite the impacts of the street-stage lead in traffic on 20 May, they will be minimal during those days. The mayor also said he expected very public, ensuring that everything will be done to give comfort and safety to spectators.
